The Centre for Studies in Otherness is a collaborative project between scholars primarily from the University of Aarhus, Denmark and Mary Immaculate College, Limerick, Ireland.The peer-reviewed, open-access e-journal Otherness: Essays and Studies is now accepting submissions for its special issue: Otherness and the Performing Arts, Autumn 2014. Follow-up: Gogol in Cluj/Cardiff

Three days of workshop, symposium, two special blocks for young researchers and also two performances were comprised into the Gogol in Cluj/Cardiff event between 21-23 March. The first international, practice-based research oriented event of the Representations of the Other project has come to life as an interwoven endeavour of the Gogol InterPlayground project – a rhizomatic, world-wide growing network that encourages the use of drama as a tool for social transformation –, the GroundFloor Group from Cluj (Romania), producer of cutting-edge performances in the Paintbrush Factory, this latter serving as a venue for this event as well. Organization and professional support was also assumed by editors and contributors to the Játéktér/Playing Area theatre periodical. (more…)

The International Dance project “Woman,BODY” by 4 female prominent artists from 4 different countries: Batarita from Hungary, Gabriela Cuevas-Abitia from Mexico, So-jung Park from Korea, and Sonoko Prow from Thailand. This cultural exchange dance project takes 2 years. Each artists will share solo performance, conduct the workshop, and work about “Woman,BODY” in each countries. (more…)

Finnphonia Emigrantica (FINLAND)

Etc.’s next performance Finnphonia – Emigrantica studies language and its barriers, as well as ways of expression that cross the boundaries of language. It brings to the stage stories about being Finnish, written by Finnish authors – but this time performed by talented immigrant artists in Hungarian, French, Danish, Swedish, English, Swahili, Luganda, Romanian, Russian and Finnish. PARALLEL – performance (ROMANIA)

Signed by directors Ferenc Sinkó and Leta Popescu, Parallel is based on experiences of performers Lucia Mărneanu and kata bodoki-halmen. Created from the proposals of the performers and written by the entire team, the show provokes by its direct approach towards themes like: body, sexual identity, repression and acceptance. Moving bodies, drag show as well as original songs by kata bodoki-halmen together with live mixed music by danaga create a dynamic and penetrating performance. (more…)
